Cave ... well, more of a bookcase with a hole in it

Update: If you've arrived from Bookcrossing, Hi! You're very welcome. When you've finished with the bookcases, check out a couple of other bizarre bookish gift ideas in a more recent post.

If you’ve too many unread books and too much spare cash (I’ve the first problem, but unfortunately not the second) then for €8,000+delivery you can buy a set of double-sided bookcases, with a snug chair incorporated to incentivise you (that’s only a verb in buzzword bingo management land) to read some more.

The thirty year old designer, Sakura Adachi, describes the CAVE.

“In urban life, there seems to be a common understanding that people tend to consciously or subconsciously become wary of strangers surrounding them. They are always balancing a certain level of privacy with others.

A bookcase CAVE provides a private reading space within its form. As a seat height is just above the floor, CAVE gives a feeling of hiding from others standing around it. Books can be stored on both sides. Therefore, CAVE can also functions as a partition of a room ...

LED reading light is installed at top of the seat.”

There’s also a kid’s version too if your nipper has too many Julia Donaldson books (Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale).

Only a whopping €5,350 + delivery.

And your (small) pet is catered for too, though they seem to get less shelf space!

€2,200 + delivery.

“... a bookcase with an intervention of domestic pet's (dogs and cats) house. Since animals have defensive behaviour by nature, they tend to stay in corner of a room, hidden space and etc.

CAVE_pet can provide such a private space to your dog or cat.”

It’s inspired a fun set of blog post titles too ...
