Something for the weekend

NI International Airshow takes place up in Portrush this weekend. The main air displays are between noon and 6pm on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September, with a variety of other family-friendly and military attractions on the ground.

There’s a poppy drop at 2pm on Sunday to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The Red Arrows are back with their display over Portrush at 5.30pm on Saturday. Fans of the RAF’s aerobatic team may be interested in Saturday’s flight plan for other opportunities to catch the red Hawk aircraft in the air:

  • 1530 – Reds arrive ALDERGROVE
  • 1719 – Reds depart ALDERGROVE
  • 1730 – Reds display PORTRUSH
  • 1801 – Reds recover ALDERGROVE
  • 1951 – Reds depart ALDERGROVE

Hillsborough International Oyster Festival is on this weekend with an inexplicable mix of oyster, fashion, live music and cars.

Love Music Hate Racism poster for Do The Right Thing film

Love Music Hate Racism NI are showing the first of their free monthly films at the Group Space in the Ulster Hall on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

This weekend they’re showing Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do The Right Thing.

You can explore Nendrum Monastic Site (which lives at the end of the road that goes past Castle Espie (Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust) between noon and 4pm on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 in the company of a Living History monk to “learn about the daily life of the Brothers on the island as they fished, farmed and harnessed the sea to grind grain for their daily bread”. (Will be repeated next weekend too.)
