Cockpit announcement

Knowing how much some readers like travel stories ...

Sitting on the tarmac at Heathrow, ten minutes after the doors closed and we’d been told that the plane had permission to push back, the captain’s voice came over the tannoy again ...

In case you’re wondering why there hasn’t been any action ... We’re boxed in by “the world's favourite”, and until he moves, we’re stuck.

Stuck in the Terminal 1 cul-de-sac, with Belfast’s Gate 2 right at the bottom.

Later on in the flight he referred back saying

Despite the palaver we had getting under way I’m pretty confident we’ll be landing in Belfast ten minutes early.

and sure enough we touched down fashionably early at a surprisingly misty early evening St George's Belfast City Airport.

(The photo's actually from Tuesday morning - sun rise, and not the sun setting!)

Cockpit annoucements can be a hoot. But I love the American flight crews the best. Waiting on baord an American Airline flight at Manchester Airport the Captain told us that we would be a while leaving as we can't get pushed back from the gate "As it seems that no one works past six pm in Manchester and their is only one tug (the little truck with the toe bar) left operating and we are fifth in line."
A few minutes later he yelled through the intercom "Yehaaaaa, here it comes, we'll be outta here in no time."

As we had experienced a thirteen hour delay there was a round of applause and wild laughter. Needless to say the crew manning this flight was a relief crew and were fired up and well rested. It was one of the best flights I've ever experienced.
